Orléans Regional Hospital Center Migrates its 325 Monitoring Points to JRI-MySirius

The Orléans Regional Hospital Center (CHR) is one of France’s largest regional hospital centers, with over 1,700 beds and 5,400 staff members. When bioMérieux announced the end of commercial support for the Labguard platform in December 2022, the hospital’s Metrology and Quality teams acted proactively. They migrated all 325 monitoring points to JRI-MySirius, with no interruption to surveillance and no loss of historical data.

Goal: Replace the Labguard System with a Long-Term, Scalable Solution that Meets the Quality Requirements of a Leading Hospital Facility

A Hospital Facility with Critical Monitoring Requirements

The Orléans Regional Hospital Center provides highly specialized care backed by a state-of-the-art clinical infrastructure. With over 1,700 beds, it records nearly 100,000 emergency visits and 5,000 births each year. As a teaching and research hospital, it runs 89 externally sponsored clinical trials and hosts 179 medical residents.

The Labguard system had been in place at the Orléans Regional Hospital Center for several years. It allowed the Metrology and Quality teams to monitor all temperature-controlled equipment used to store biological products, medications, reagents, and other temperature-sensitive materials.

When bioMérieux announced the end of commercial support for the Labguard solution in December 2022, the Metrology and Quality teams launched a proactive process. Their goal was to anticipate the organizational, operational, and quality impacts of the transition. They selected a long-term, scalable solution and migrated 325 monitoring points to the JRI-MySirius IoT platform.

A Phased Migration to a Like-for-Like Hospital Temperature Monitoring System

In November 2021, deployment of the Nano SPY connected temperature mini-loggers began in the Hygiene and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) departments. They ran alongside approximately thirty existing Labguard 2 radio transmitters.

Ambient conditions, refrigerators, freezers, and laboratory cold rooms were placed under the monitoring of Nano SPY T2 mini-loggers. Incubators used the version calibrated between +30°C and +50°C. Ultra-low temperature freezers at -80°C were fitted with Nano SPY T3 low-temperature loggers.

Data recorded by each Nano SPY is automatically transmitted to Nano SPY Link modules, then pushed to the JRI-MySirius Cloud supervision platform.

« The Nano SPY temperature mini-loggers communicate flawlessly and have the benefit of a long-lasting battery. When the battery needs replacing, JRI handles it as part of our maintenance contract. »

Cédric DELAPIERRE, Metrology Manager – Orléans Regional Hospital Center

Building on the success of this first phase, nearly 230 additional monitoring points were onboarded. The Biopathology Department, the Pharmacy, and several other services, along with the Gien and Pithiviers hospital sites, completed the rollout in 2022.

« We quickly found our footing in JRI-MySirius because it shares several similarities with the Labguard software. It is intuitive to use, and more of our technicians are logging in regularly. On the hardware side, we also appreciate that the Nano SPY Link’s LED strip alerts us when an alarm is active. It helps us respond even faster. »

Cédric DELAPIERRE, Metrology Manager – Orléans Regional Hospital Center

Managing Labguard 3D Loggers from JRI-MySirius

The CHR’s equipment included a mix of Labguard 2 and Labguard 3D models. Working closely with the bioMérieux teams, JRI developed the integration required to manage Labguard 3D devices directly from JRI-MySirius. More than seventy Labguard 3D loggers were added to the monitoring points already covered by the new platform.

Migrating Historical Data Safely

The final phase consisted of migrating all data from the Labguard system to JRI-MySirius. A preparation meeting brought together JRI’s Labguard specialist along with the Orléans Regional Hospital Center IT and Metrology teams. Together, they validated the technical prerequisites: measurement channel file creation, network port configuration, compatible software versions, and network operating system validation.

In 3 hours, data from every Labguard device was recovered. Labguard 2 data was linked to its corresponding Nano SPY unit. Everything was archived in JRI-MySirius with no data loss. Temperature curves remained continuous, the transition was fully traceable, and the now-obsolete Labguard 2 radio transmitters were decommissioned.

End-to-End Support

JRI also provides maintenance for the installation: hotline access for all 205 users, a 3-year extended warranty on Nano SPY loggers, and battery replacement included in the maintenance contract. Probe calibration is handled by JRI’s mobile COFRAC-accredited metrology laboratory, the Lab’express.

The Orléans Regional Hospital Center used the UGAP framework agreement, through which JRI is listed as an approved supplier for temperature-controlled equipment monitoring. This gave the hospital streamlined administrative, commercial, and legal processes.
